When fishing you are looking to catch any fish, but when spearfishing you are looking to catch one fish in particular. Spear phishing works the same way. Rather than casting a wide net, the phisher tailors their attack to you by using social engineering and any personal information they can find.

You're the "phish". The bait is anything from a great deal on some cool shades all the way to someone impersonating your mother. The hook can be some shiny new ransomware, information theft, or even just a nasty virus to cause some damage. Stay informed, stay safe.
